WHAT IS KINDERMUSIK?
Kindermusik is an introduction to music for children 18 months to seven years of age. It emphasizes early childhood learning while providing a joyful experience with music. Through singing, moving, listening, and playing instruments children learn basic musical skills and concepts.
WHY START SO YOUNG?
Research shows that early musical experiences play a significant role in intellectual development. Kindermusik offers the child a rich assortment of activities to promote language development, symbolic thinking, coordination, social interaction, and imagination.
WHAT CLASSES ARE AVAILABLE?Kindermusik Beginnings brings the joy of music and movement into the lives of children 18 months through 3 years of age. Students, each with a parent or caregiver present, meet weekly for a 30-minute class of singing, chanting, moving, listening, and playing simple instruments. There are four non-sequential semesters. Growing With Kindermusik is for children ages 3 1/2 to 5 years, a crucial period when your child moves from being receptive to being more expressive in his/her learning. Two non-sequential semesters of fascinating musical exploration accustom children to being in class without a parent or caregiver present the entire time. Kindermusik for the Young Child broadens and deepens the music experience for children ages 4 to 7 with four sequential semesters of activity. Meeting each week, students explore many facets of the musical experience -- speaking and singing, moving, listening, creating and playing percussion instruments, and learning about writing and reading music.
CLASSES ARE OFFERED DURING THE DAY AND EVENING. FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT ONE OF THE KINDERMUSIK EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS LISTED BELOW. . .

"When should we start our child on music lessons? She's a toddler who loves to get up on the piano bench and bang the keys, though she's not really playing songs." According to Marilyn Sherwin, of Marilyn's KinderMusik, children of two years, or even younger, are at a prime time for parent and child to explore music. Kindermusik is a series of age-appropriate, group music courses, stressing listening concentration, physical movement, singing, and rythmic practice. Children come to feel "at home" with music, long before it's time for formal keyboard or other instrumental lessons. A KinderMusik course taught Marilyn the techniques used for young children, six months old and up to seven years of age. She is starting classes at Sherrie's Dance Studio on Appian Way. Marilyn Sherwin is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley, where she was trained in music education. She performed with the Oakland Symphony for 10 years as a cellist and played in the Pablo Casals' Master Class in Berkeley, in 1959. She has been teaching in West Contra Costa County for 11 years. KinderMusik classes are now forming in El Sobrante to start in May on Saturday mornings, as a convenience for working parents. A Free Demonstration Lesson will be given at this time.
